What's the USA1 Project? It's a way to express something that we too often forget: The United States of America is a country founded upon faith in God and His "love letter" to us called the Bible.  

This is how our Declaration of Independence begins:

                                               We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are
                                               created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with
                                               certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty
                                               and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights,
                                               governments are instituted among men, deriving their just
                                               powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any
                                               form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is
                                               the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute
                                               new government, laying its foundation on such principles and
                                               organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem
                                               most likely to effect their safety and happiness.

The Declaration of 1776 (and the Constitution signed in 1787, along with the Bill of Rights added in 1789) all refer directly or indirectly to God, Creator, Divinity, and Divine Providence. The Bill of Rights, which was a set of amendments or changes to the Constitution, begins this way (The First Amendment):

We are doing this primarily so we can support two wonderful, deserving, very worthy causes, the Wounded Warrior Project and the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

                                The Wounded Warrior Project has several offices located throughout the country, and has
                                as its mission "to foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service
                                members in our nation's history." The greatest casualty of our conflicts in Iraq and Afghani-
                                stan is not the killing of American troops, as tragic as that is; the greatest casualties occur 
                                if returning service members are forgotten as they struggle to return to family, friends, and
                                wholeness. WWP extends its expert help to troops wounded both physically and mentally.
                                The toll from the IEDs (improvised explosive devices) as well as fierce, protracted battles is
                                a very large one. Our young men and women left here healthy and whole, and thousands of
                                them were brought back in various states of severe physical and mental loss and suffering.
                                We owe all our returning military personnel a huge debt. The USA may be the land of the
                                free, but it is so because of  the brave.

                                The St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis was started many years ago by well-
                                known comedian and actor Danny Thomas. It has grown into one of the most important and 
                                acclaimed facilities in the country devoted to medical care for children. St. Jude has a policy 
                                of never turning away any family because of an inability to pay for care; this is the reason why
                                St. Jude must continually raise money through donations. If you have ever been in a hospital 
                                setting designed for children's care, and seen what some kids have to go through just to live 
                                what we all hope will become a productive and successful life (and what the medical staff 
                                goes through to help make that happen), you will never forget the experience. Children do 
                                not ask to be brought into this world, and they have a right to expect a loving, caring, and 
                                nurturing family life; instead, some of them go through hell on earth to overcome birth defects,
                                disease, physical abuse, dysfunctional families, and accidental injury. They deserve our help, 
                                and so does the St. Jude hospital.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
The signers of our Declaration of Independence knew precisely the jeopardy they were exposing themselves, their families, and their futures to; they were going directly against the King of England and all his military might. They had absolutely no doubt they could be apprehended, arrested, and hanged simply for signing that document. That is why they completed the Declaration by saying  "with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor."

In other words, our forefathers who signed the Declaration were willing to give everything they had, everything that gave any importance and meaning to their lives, to assure that they and all the generations of Americans that were to follow would be able to live in peace and freedom.
No matter what feelings or opinions some US citizens might express today, they are entitled to express those opinions solely because of the freedoms guaranteed them by the shed blood of those who have preceded us. From this country's very first  days up till the present, many of our citizens have had to pay with their lives to maintain the promise of freedom in our unique Declaration. Take the time to visit one of our national cemeteries. Think about all those men and women who are buried there, and what thoughts might have gone through their minds as they were facing enemies in battle. Did they expect to return home to those who loved them, or did they have a foreboding that they would die in the fight? Did they feel pride in the cause of the battle? Were they fearful as the bullets whizzed by before one finally found its mark? Did they feel guilt in previous battles as a good friend was cut down and drew his or her last breath while they were spared?
The lives we all are privileged to be living are not a dress rehearsal. If there is no God in our lives, then somehow we must decide what living this life is all about.  We must come to an understanding, to a sense of purpose. Are we here simply to enjoy ourselves as much as we can (even at the expense of others)? Are we here to accumulate as much as possible...money and cars and homes and jewelry and fine clothing...even though we can take none of it with us? Is our planet and its place in the universe a fortuitous accident, and we just happened to evolve into that accident in this particular year and century? Or maybe, just maybe, could it be that we are here because a Designer, a Creator, decided to put us here as a part of His plan for this day and time? If there is no God in our lives, why do we force ourselves to get out of bed each morning, just to face the same troubled world all over again? If there is no God, are the laws we all must obey really so important? If this earthly life is all there is, wouldn't it make more sense to "live it to the max" by getting all we possibly can of what this life offers, with no real concern for any of the others we come across who might be in the way?

Maybe you've heard of Solomon. He was the son of King David, the David who killed Goliath. Solomon was widely known even in his own time as the richest man in the world. He had the best of everything...food, wine, women, houses, clothing... only the best. He has also been called the wisest man who ever lived, or certainly one of the wisest. He wrote, among others, the Book of Proverbs in the Bible, a book of wisdom if ever there was one. Even Solomon came to the realization that the only purpose in life was to "fear God and keep His commandments, because...God will bring every act to judgment...whether it is good or evil." (These are the last lines of the book called Ecclesiastes...which Solomon also wrote.)

The main reason you are here, now, on this planet called Earth, is to get to know the Designer who put you here. God has a plan which encompasses much more than just today. God is eternal, and He calls life Eternity. Life without end. Forever. And He gives you the option of joining Him in that Eternity. But you can't intelligently choose that option until you know at least some of what awaits you in that eternal life to come, and Who awaits you.
